A GUIDE TO BUYING YOUR FIRST PEARLS

Have you dreamed of owning your own pearls since you first saw Breakfast at Tiffany’s? Audrey Hepburn has iconized pearls and inspired women all over the world with her now classic strand of pearls, so we understand the enchantment!
A Guide to Buying Your First Pearls
Buying your first piece of pearl jewelry can be intimidating (what color do you choose, what type?), but once you know what to look for, it can be an exhilarating experience that will leave you feeling glamorous. With these handy tips below, we’re confident you can pick out the perfect piece of pearl jewelry that truly represents the best of you!
Factors Influencing the Price
First, you need to know the difference between natural and cultured or farmed pearls. Natural pearls are grown in the wild without any human interference while cultured pearls need humans to cultivate them. Natural pearls are extremely rare and much more expensive than their farmed cousins. Most pearls currently used in jewelry are cultured unless it explicitly states they are natural.
Six factors determine the value and price of pearl jewelry: size, luster, shape, color, surface, and match. The higher the quality of the pearls, the more valuable they are and, of course, the more expensive. If you need to decide whether to go for a higher quality or bigger sized pearls to fit in with your budget, go for higher quality.
Personal Style
It is important that you choose pearl jewelry that fits your personal style and suits your skin tone. Many women believe that your first pearls should be a classic white strand, which works for many women, but if that’s not your style, choose something you know you’re going to love wearing.
Where you want to wear the pearls– for work, formal events, or in a casual setting– will affect which kind of jewelry you choose.
The color you choose is a great way to show your personal style. Just remember that colors can limit the clothing choices. Classic, white pearls are versatile, can be dressed up or down, and can fit in with almost any outfit. Darker pearls such as black, silver, and chocolate can be exotic, bold, and dramatic. Softer colors like pink, peach, and lavender are fun, flirty, and young – a perfect choice for spring and summer.
The shape you choose is also an important factor. There are many shapes available, ranging from perfectly round to drop, button, oval, and baroque pearls.
How to Care for Your Pearls
If you look after your pearls well, they can remain in good condition for a lifetime. Chemicals are not good for pearls and will eventually dull the pearls’ luster. Keep them away from perfume, makeup, and hairspray.
Wipe the pearls with a soft cloth after you wear them and store them separately from other jewelry to avoid scratching.
Tips on Buying Your First Pearls
When choosing a retailer to buy from, keep these factors in mind:
  • The color of pearls may look different from a photo or inside a shop depending on the light. Choose a retailer with a return policy in place.
  • Select a retailer who specializes in pearl jewelry as other jewelers may not have the necessary knowledge to advise you.
  • Don’t pick pearl jewelry according to brands. High-quality pearls are available to retailers no matter their size. Branded jewelry may be more expensive just because of the brand name, not the quality.
  • Retailers who buy directly from the farmers can sell high-quality pearls at a much more affordable price.
  • Make sure you buy real pearls. You’ll be able to spot the difference with this guide.

A Bond Entrenched: the Oyster and the Pearl

There is a special bond that exists between an oyster and a pearl by virtue of the way a pearl is formed. If a grain or another object slips in between the shell and the mantle of an oyster, irritation is created. The oyster carefully and patiently coats the intruder with nacre – layer by layer – until an exceptional being is created: a beautiful pearl.

A Bond Entrenched: the Oyster and the Pearl

If you looked

Inside my heart

You’d see

All the rhythms

Of my life

Breathed

A perfect pearl

Into perfect being

And holds it

For safe

Keeping.

–         SilviAlcivar

The bond between the pearl and the oyster is akin to the precious bond that exists between a mother and child, two best friends, and a husband and wife. No relationship is flawless. But when a bond is powerful enough, an “irritation” will be forgiven and love will triumph.

Because it’s true

That when

I breathe

My lungs

Make laughter

That sounds out

Your name,

Every part of me

Loves every piece

Of you

Every moment

I breathe

Us

Into

Being.

–          SilviAlcivar

Not all pearls are perfect – some have uneven shapes like baroque pearls. But, sometimes, these unique shapes and imperfections are what make them so special and beautiful. Think of your wife, your mother, or your daughter. She’s not perfect, but just like a baroque pearl, she’s unique and special. She has her own story, one that defines her and makes her different. The most beautiful woman is one that carries her imperfections with grace and poise.
A Bond Entrenched: the Oyster and the Pearl

To know grace

Feel

The power

Of gratitude

Touching your heart

Like a pearl pendant

Strung on a string

Of thank you’s

Whispered

By your

Every

Breath.

–          SilviAlcivar

Pearls are “living” organisms that can stay alive for a lifetime, for several generations. Pearls become even more dazzling over time; they obtain an added gleam from absorbing the oil from your skin. Even more extraordinary, these jewels rub their nutrition off onto the human body. They contain numerous minerals, amino acids, and a high concentration of calcium that acts as a relaxant. The pearl attitude is one of giving the best of itself to the one who loves them.

PEARL JEWELRY ON THE RED CARPET: A LOOK AT THE 2016 OSCARS

Every year thousands of people have their eyes glued to the screen on Oscar night. This evening is as much about who wore what than it is about the awards. It’s a thrilling night for celebrities, designers, fans, and critics alike. All eyes are on the ladies’ outfits to see who nailed it and who didn’t, and this year was no exception.
At this year’s 88th Academy Awards, the stars showed a lot of love for pearl jewelry. We saw some classic pieces, but we also saw celebrities pushing the boundaries with exciting and daring pearl designs. Here at Timeless Pearl we’re so excited about the trends we saw this year, that we decided to share our highlights with you.
Brie Larson

Oscar-winning actress Brie Larson was the epitome of elegance with her blue Gucci gown lit up with a belt adorned with all kinds of gems, and, of course, pearls. Accessorizing with pearl drop earrings added that special touch of elegance to her outfit.
Olivia Wilde
Olivia Wilde broke the style rules with a backless ivory-white Valentino gown with a plunging square neckline. The dramatic Edwardian pearl-and-diamond choker and pearl earrings by Neil Lane completed her show-stopping look.
Lisa Thompson
Production Design Oscar winner Lisa Thompson embraced pearls by wearing a long classic strand of pearls paired with pearl drop earrings that complemented the rest of her outfit.
Saoirse Ronan
Another risk taker, Saoirse Ronan wore mismatched Chopard earrings with an emerald green dress from Calvin Klein as an ode to her home country, Ireland. She pushed the envelope with one emerald earring, and one pearl earring from Timeless Pearl. Her look was young and fresh, and hopefully, we’ll see more of this trend.

Tracy Edmonds
Tracy Edmonds decided pearl jewelry was not enough, and instead opted for a body-hugging Lorena Sarbu ivory dress completely covered in pearl beads.
Whoopi Goldberg
Probably the most unexpected jewelry piece came from this veteran actress. Whoopi Goldberg wore an extraordinary piece by jeweler Sevan Bicakci. This pearl bracelet is not for the faint-hearted, and we loved that Whoopi was brave enough to wear this octopus bracelet made from gold, silver, thousands of small diamonds, and a humongous South Sea baroque pearl.
